Salford students to perform at prestigious drama festival

UNIVERSITY OF SALFORD students are set to perform at the highly acclaimed National Student Drama Festival.

Performance duo Craig Bennett and Rosie Hynes from the BA Physical and Dance Theatre programme beat off fierce competition to earn the opportunity of a lifetime to showcase their talents at the seven day festival in Scarborough next month.

They are one of just 12 groups chosen from over 200 vying for a much sought after place at the prestigious event.

Craig, who graduated from Salford last year, and second year Rosie impressed the judges with their performance and a viva.

The pair will perform Craig’s final year project ‘What Do You Want From Me’ at the McCarthy Auditorium in the Stephen Joseph Theatre (dates tbc).

‘We are really excited,” said Rosie.

“This is an amazing opportunity and there are some excellent professional companies performing too.

“At the same time, we are terrified and starting to feel the pressure a bit.”

Rehearsals have already started and festival co-ordinators have enrolled Chris Thorpe of Unlimited Theatre Company to act as mentor.

The National Student Drama Festival sees productions, participants and professionals come from all across the UK to Scarborough to create a unique week of workshops, performances, discussions and training.

In addition to performing, Craig and Rosie will also have the opportunity to participate in workshops and audition for NSDF Ensemble, a company established from the participants who then also create work and perform at The Latitude Festival.

The National Student Drama Festival runs for seven days from April 11.

The BA Physical and Dance Theatre is a full time, three year programme.

The aim of the programme is to give a wide and diverse range of skills in Dance Theatre and Physical Theatre to create innovative and experimental work.
