Bolton tutor jailed in child porn shame

Quays NewsA private tutor from Bolton has been jailed for four years for possessing and making indecent images of children.

Robert Mitchell, 47, pleaded guilty to one count of possessing indecent images of children and 13 counts of making indecent images of children.

He was later sentenced at Bolton Crown Court to spend four years in prison. He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life and was made subject of a sexual offences prevention order.

Mitchell was a self employed private tutor, teaching sciences to GCSE and A-level students at their homes and at his business premises in Bolton.

When police raided his home, his office and a lock-up unit, they recovered numerous discs and items of computer equipment, which they later discovered contained hundreds of thousands of indecent images and videos of children.

Detective Sergeant Steph Parker from Bolton’s Child Protection Unit, said: “By all accounts, it would appear Mitchell had earned himself a credible reputation as a tutor in the Bolton area.

“However, he abused this position of trust to put himself in situations where he could spend time with teenage girls, seemingly for his own sexual and emotional gratification.”
